The Heart Protector- Ode To My Daughter

Ode to my daughter

I’m astounded/ my goal is to see you become so well rounded/

I look at how fast you have grown and have become so dumbfounded/

And then I blinked/

I sink into my innermost thoughts from my past/

Nothing but painted nails and pretty eyelashes, inside the hour glass/

As the sand falls, the clock ticks, innocence and ignorance is bliss/

From tea parties, sweet cheek kisses, forever my princess/

In either kindergarten, high school, or any age in this world/

Heaven says as your heart protector, you’ll always be my little girl/

Yes I know, your independent now with all your own friends/

You have your life, your ways, your choices and your own opinions/

But may I add an addendum, to the book of your life/

Although my role has changed i long to know all of your insight/

But inside, I will forever be your heart protector/

No matter your age, even when you don’t need my protection/

Because as your father all I see is a beautiful collection/

Of the prettiest princess in the world, the daddy daughter connection/

I take your hand, let’s dance to the rhythm of the same beat/

I take your hand, as you grow teach me how to move my feet/

You take my hand, and show me how be better than my predecessor/

You take my hand and trust, always and forever, I’ll be your heart protector.
