Hitting The Pause Button To Express Appreciation!

screenshot_2018-06-21-05-15-39-1210691160.png

From retro themed poetry to moments scrolling down memory lane, I truly love what I do as a writer. When I started http://www.vintageretroman.com, I began a journey of self realization and creativity through writing. I am aware that I do not think or operate like many people. I enjoy everything from Christian Hip-Hop to Pac-Man. I like to wear masks and costumes. I am entertained by everything from Nascar to Marching Bands. Most importantly I love the vintage and retro cultures of the past.

I never would have thought that 100 people would actually see my vision. For many years I did not showcase my writing ability because I simply thought that it was not good enough. I purposefully try to surround myself with other bloggers who are much better than me. It keeps me humble, and I learn so much from them. As I continue on my mission to provide the best content possible for the masses, I want to take a quick moment to hit the pause button and say thank you.

To my 100 followers on my blog, and almost 1000 followers on Instagram, I genuinely appreciate your support. I have been through so many things this year that were negative, but my blogging community has been a true blessing in my life. When I lost my father in March, you have been there. When I was in the hospital 2 weeks ago, you encouraged me. Thank you for being patient with me. Thank you for understanding me. I may not be the best at many talents, but rest assure with me you will always get sincerity and authenticity. It is how I live my life and how I will continue on.

Thank you for every like, every kind word, and every thought and prayer. You are appreciated. Please remember, my only goal is to make you feel like a kid again. Operate with passion. Structure your heart with love for others. Remember not to take life too seriously. Lastly, never let life dictate how far you can make it! On to 200 followers! 🙂

Samus- Destined For Greatness- Part 1 (The Kidnapping)

It is amazing how growing up, some stories have a lasting impact on your life. They are stories of courage, perseverance, overcoming nearly impossible odds. Stories of how unlikely people can grow to become something great! Since I was a kid, one of my favorite stories was actually the story of Samus Aran from the hit Nintendo (NES) game and series, Metriod! Samus was the original “Gamer Girl”. In 1986, she became the first major female protagonist in video game history! Her story and her legacy still continues today and she has become a well respected character in not just video game history, but all art forms. Because of this, I have decided to capture her story from a different perspective for my readers. Below is part one of my new series entitled “Samus- Destined For Greatness”. Enjoy!!!

(Scene is an exploding planet and destruction everywhere)

A concentrated gamma ray strikes a planet, increasing the core pressure literally tore it open.

(Samus hears a whispering voice) Samus wake up, Samus wake up! We are under attack!/

Pirates are raiding K-2L, and the planet is ramshackled/

I’m from the Chozo species, and you have been chosen/

We must leave at great pace, before this planet’s explosion/

I know you’re young, you will not understand what is going on/

Don’t cry baby girl, I know you probably feel so alone/

You have no idea that you are destined for such greatness/

As we approach the planet Zebes you will find what await us/

Zebes

Experimentation, and infusion of our DNA/

As you grow and become stronger you will learn the right way/

We know it’s tough being an orphan and we can’t speak on your parent’s/

We understand that this planet, compared to your last, there is a large variance/

Samus, look at me and dry those tears from your eyes/

My name is Old Bird, a Chozo elder and your ally/

I promise, we’ll get to the bottom of these diabolical acts/

As we record these events in a series of triological facts/

** And so the Samus child grew, the only survivor from K-2L/

She was only 3 years old at the time of the evil Ridley’s prevail/

He and his pirates are responsible for her parent’s demise/

Little did they know from their actions, a future warrior would arise/**

Samus

**Part 2 coming soon, stay tuned in**

Upon enjoying my vacation in beautiful Emerald Hill/

I felt refreshed laid back feet up sipping on coconut milk/

This is a much needed break for the fastest thing alive/

Sonic the Hedgehog is my name, into the mellow I dive/

Which is the song I sing as I backstroke in the Aquatic Mine/

A zone in Sonic Adventure 2 where I like to swim and unwind/

This is the best vacation ever, not a care in this world/

I should do this more often with Amy Rose that’s my girl/

Amy, hold on a second I can hear my phone ringing/

Hello…..oh hey Tails how are you my good friend?/

What…..Dr. Eggman’s ship just crashed and it’s sinking?/

In the Green Hill waterfall and he kidnapped Vintage Retroman?/

You’re kidding? What an unbelievable turn of events!/

I have to find him he’s probably trying to survive in wilderness/

So much for the bliss of this vacation when duty calls I respond/

I am the blue spin attack, Sonic the Hedgehog after all!/

allstarssonic649723724.jpg

Hold on V.R. hang in there buddy, I’ll find you in the tropics/

I know the tactics of the diabolical Dr. Robotnik/

Amy, take my blue car and I’ll be right behind you/

Vintage Retroman hold on sir, we are coming to find you/

A Vintage Retroman’s Plea From The “Green Hill Zone” Part 1, “The Disaster”

Sonic, where are you?

Sonic, where are you?

So ironic that I’m searching and cannot find you!/

Let me remind you, you are the hero, don’t make me beg man/

When the clock goes zero, game over, the winner will be Eggman/

I’ve searched far and wide, in and out of this Green Hill Zone/

No trace of blue in the area as i search through and roam/

There are fish jumping out of waterfalls still trying to bite me/

Monkey in trees throwing coconuts and bee’s that’s trying to fight me!/

How did i get here? I just wanted to interview Dr. Robotnik/

We sat down over coffee and had a decent conversation/

Until he kidnapped me, the Vintage Retroman in his star ship/

Flew through the Star Light Zone in bondage with very little consolation/

Your buddy Tails intended no harm when he saw the ship fly/

He was in his airplane doing exercises for practice/

Until he saw me in trouble and possibly we could all die/

And that the evil Dr. Eggman was up to his old tactics/

Tails shot the ship down, we crashed some where in between/

A zone made of marble and the great hill that’s named “Spring”/

Deserted, i slowly walked to the place that were the grass was green/

Hoping to find food and vegetation because I’m starving/

Sonic where are you? I hope that you will be here real soon/

Sonic where are you? The Vintage Retroman needs you/

I still believe that in your world you will help me survive/

Until then, i have to just wait for “The fastest thing alive……..”

To be continued……..

Mayday Mayday! It’s going down!

May 1st, 1983 a king was born. As I look back reflecting on the events of my life the past 35 years on my birthday, I cannot help but feel grateful for the people and experiences I have encountered for my own personal growth. Many of you know that my dad passed away in March this year, and it left me searching for answers in many area’s of my life. What is amazing, is that I woke up this morning on my birthday feeling different. I had the deepest feelings of peace and gratitude as I sat out at the lake with my wife eating breakfast before work. I thought back to my childhood, and how I used to love going to the lake with my dad. I looked over at the picnic tables and thought about how myself, my 7 brothers and sisters, and my parents would enjoy the natural beauty that God almighty created. With all of those thoughts and emotions, I wanted to take a brief moment to express them through an original poem. It is entitled: MayDay. I hope you all enjoy it!

MayDay by Vintage Retroman

Everyday is a holiday, everyday is a blessing/

Even when it does not seem like it from constantly stressing/

Take some time to enjoy the beauty within the struggle/

Like the butterfly in the cocoon while the leaves rustle/

Life may seem like a challenge, the only thing constant is change/

Have you ever felt how good it feels to dance in the rain?/

Have you ever seen the trees, the grass, or mountains complain?/

Don’t get me wrong I understand the reality of pain/

Hang in their soldier, you are almost at the finish line now/

And as the curtain calls and the show ends, only then take a bow/

Until then, live life to the fullest while you work hard and pray/

My only wish is that you enjoy the experience of this Mayday/

50 Blog Followers, Thank You For Your Support!

Since I started my blogging journey in January 2018 as Vintage RetroMan, I have had the amazing opportunity to meet so many wonderful people online. I put off my dream of being a writer for years, as I was so afraid to take that first step of faith. What will people think of my content? How will my readers perceive what I am trying to accomplish? I need to have a set goal in mind don’t I, and shouldn’t I have a long drawn out plan on how to achieve my goal?

Then I remembered, I love retro, and I love people, so let’s start from there. Love! That is why I write. The love for the pen, as I used to call it growing up. That is why I have been a writer since I was in the 5th grade, writing simple poems and short stories even back then. In middle school, I wrote more advanced poetry and stories. In high school, I began writing raps and love songs, which stuck with me throughout college. Still, no matter what I was actually writing, it was always the love that propelled me to deliver a message via written form. Today is no different.

I just wanted to take a brief moment to say thank you to my readers. To some people, 50 followers may be trivial. To me, it is a huge milestone. I just want all of my readers to know how much I genuinely care about every like, comment, opinion, constructive criticism, and overall contribution you all give to my blog and Instagram page daily. My life has truly changed since January of this year. When my father passed away last month, my readers were there for me. I was hurting so bad and you, my reader, lifted me. Thank you.

In conclusion, I am going to echo something my father used to tell me all of the time. My dad stated, “Son, quit worrying about all the in’s and out’s of everything all of the time. Sometimes in life, you just have to jump right in and do it! You will make your mistakes, and that’s okay. Learn as you go along and quit overthinking trying to figure it all out at once!” That is what I did with my blog this year. I jumped right in, and I am so glad I did! Are you on the fence about something? Some goal, some dream? Please listen to my dad. You will be glad you did! Signing off for now……..

“What today’s love is missing”- a review by V.R.

One word, simplicity. The simple things like strolls in the park, a simple conversation, or just simply being in the presence of the one you love. Growing up in the 80’s, i saw my parents mimic this simple concept. A quick dance, a simple kiss, or a long hug can do wonders to cover the hardships and struggles of life. When Billie Joel crafted his masterpiece Just the way you are, I love how he focused on the simplicity of pure love.

Billy Joel live- Just the way you are.

https://youtu.be/tJWM5FmZyqU

This song is not about fancy expensive dates, complex conversations, or trying to reinvent the wheel to impress someone. He proved that when he expressed in the lyrics “I don’t want clever conversations, I never want to work that hard. I just want someone that i can talk to, I want you just the way you are.” Do you know how rare this type of love is in 2018? As you lay back and listen to this classic, take the time out to let the lyrics penetrate your heart. I believe that people needs to go back to the basics. That’s what today’s love is missing.
